Unique wedding entertainment ideas to bring your day to life
what can you do to have a unique wedding?
When it comes to your wedding entertainment, you want something that helps you stand out from every other wedding. However, being unique sometimes doesn’t mean it’s good entertainment or the right fit for you. I was at a wedding where they hired a saxophone player to play only during the photographs. Everyone was so busy posing and getting drinks that no one had time to hear him play.
I’ve worked at hundreds of weddings and had feedback from countless couples, so here I’m going to list out the top five ways you can use a magician at your wedding in different ways and hopefully give you an idea of how booking a magician can be the best decision you make to be sure that your special day has something that will fit in with whatever you are planning.
Walk-around magic
The first and most popular way to have a magician at your wedding is with walk-around magic, in which the magician goes around the room, approaches different groups of people, and performs various tricks for them.
When I do this, I always make sure to have plenty of different materials on hand so everyone can see something different. I would recommend booking this if you are worried about having a moment that seems a little quiet or if you have more guests arriving in the evening. Magic can be a great way to bring everyone in and get the whole room excited.
Walk-around magic is also great during the drinks reception. As everyone comes out of the ceremony, they are greeted with delight and wonder, helping them get in the headspace for the full day of celebrating! In fact, I think it's such a good idea. It was the first blog I wrote on this site; you can read it here.
Table magic
Second place on this list has to go to the wedding meal! Think about it: During the meal, you're going to have a seating plan where some people might have to be next to others that they hardly know or don’t know very well. Booking a magician for the wedding meal immediately solves this problem. Having me go around the tables between courses and perform for the guests while they wait to be served gives everyone a chance to get to know each other.
If you have children at your wedding, that’s great! Children are notoriously not great at sitting and waiting at tables, especially when they have nothing to do. Having a magician gives you peace of mind that you have something unique for your wedding entertainment and something that everyone on the big day can enjoy.
The magic corner
The things I’ve described to you so far involve me going over and approaching people to see magic, but that won’t necessarily be right for you and your wedding. Something else you can do is what I call the magic corner, which I came up with from direct feedback from a bride and groom.
It works by having a table set up anywhere in the room where your guests will be celebrating, with a sign letting them know that it’s the magician’s table. Any of your guests who want to see magic can come to the table, so no one will get interrupted while talking or doing something else. It allows everyone who wants to opt out of seeing magic the power to do so; it also enables people to sit at the table as long as they want to.
The Magic Corner is unique and has a very special feel. If you want your wedding to have the wow factor of a magician and a unique style of wedding entertainment, this is the choice for you.
The 15-minute stand-up slot
This is interesting because it’s an add-on for any other choices you make, a show for everyone, for 15 minutes with the magician standing in front of everyone. I usually do this at the end of the wedding meal but have also done it for the evening reception.
A piece of magic performed for everyone at once can be one of the best ways to create a memorable experience, the whole room coming together to watch, and it gives you something that you can have in your wedding video that no one else will have. You can have this on its own if you want, but most clients I work with have it alongside one of the other options.
If you are intrested in having a stand-up piece for your wedding, there are a number of ways you can do it, just having the magician get up and perform a piece for everyone, getting the bride and groom up to join in on performing some magic, or both! Can you think of something more unique for the big day than the bride and groom performing magic themselves?
What’s right for you?
So this is where I tell you that option five is finding out what you think would make your wedding day unique? At the start of this blog, I let you know that a couple of the things here are from brides and grooms asking for ideas, or going through the options with me.
Hopefully, by reading this, you now have an idea of what could work for you and maybe even have a whole new idea that would be perfect for your special day. I would love to go through it with you, and
